Day 3: An American Thanksgiving Vs. A Canadian Thanksgiving
Day 3: An American Thanksgiving Vs. A Canadian Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving today is celebrated in a variety of countries, but today we will be discussing the United States and Canada. The common background story behind the American Thanksgiving is that in 1621 a massive feast was shared between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag. This unity that was shared between these two very different cultures is really what Thanksgiving is all about. It is about being thankful for what you have and it brings people from all different cultures together. Canadian Thanksgiving is very similar to that of the American version. It is all about being thankful for what you have and the people around you. The common background story of it is that it originated at an autumn festival in 1578 to celebrate a great years harvest and to thank god for everything he had provided them. The biggest difference between the two is actually the time in which they are celebrated, in the United States, Thanksgiving is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, so this year November 28th. In Canada however, theirs is celebrated always on the second Monday of October so this year October 14th. So yes, Thanksgiving has already happened in Canada! But they both share a similar message and both accomplish a common goal of bringing people together and being thankful for all the blessings in life.
