The Donating of Books

The global book market was valued at 137.12 billion dollars in revenue every year in 2022.   This shows the amount of value that people see in books.  According to research however, 320 million books are thrown away every year!  Books are valued by many as they have been a staple in spreading information since around 500 B.C.  Many cannot afford to purchase books as they are often seen as not a necessity.  However, books are integral to education and are a necessity.  One of the reasons many students struggle to afford college is because of the price of textbooks.  According to a study done by the "U.S Public Research Group" it found that in 2020 65% of students said they had skipped buying a textbook for their classes due to the expense.  This is unacceptable students should not be struggling to afford necessities when it comes to their education all while at the same time 320 million of these same necessities are being thrown away each year! This is why the next time you think to throw out an unwanted book make sure to donate it as something that seems like trash to you may be a necessity to someone else.
